Our Heritage
The foundation for Emmanuel Child Care Center and Christian School was established in 1993. Guided by faith, Pastor Jesse Horton, Sr. envisioned a sanctuary for families seeking both academic excellence and spiritual growth, especially for those underserved by overcrowded public systems.
Our doors opened in 1994 with just one teacher and a single student. Under the leadership of our late director, Ms. Ida Kendrick, and our first principal, Mrs. Louise Beard, the ministry flourished. By 2003, our original South Drive location in Jackson, MS, had reached its full capacity.
Seeking to expand our reach, Pastor Horton and the Emmanuel congregation sought divine guidance to find a larger home. In March 2003, we transitioned to our current campus at 1109 Cooper Road. Today, we are licensed to serve 296 students, ranging from infants through the 8th grade.
Dedicated to accessibility, Emmanuel continues to support families through diverse financial aid options and scholarships ranging from 25% to full tuition. We are proud to hold accreditations from both the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and the Mississippi Department of Education.
With record enrollments of 155 in Child Care and 128 in our Christian School, our community continues to thrive. Alongside our After-School Program for JPS students, our mission is upheld by a dedicated team of over 30 professional staff members.

Training Hearts. Building Faith. Preparing Leaders for Life.
Vision of Our Headmaster

The vision of the Emmanuel Christian School began in 1993, when God gave me a desire to help families who wanted to educate their children academically and spiritually.
It is my desire to educate those children who are often denied an education due to lack of concern in the public school system. The visions for the Christian School are as follows:
• To provide a loving and safe environment for children K5 thru 12th Grade.
• To provide a dependable staff that will be sensitive to the physical, emotional, and academic needs of each individual child.
• Low teacher/student ratio to focus on quality education and one-on-one time with students who are struggling in subject areas.
• To provide an After-School Training program to enhance academics and assist in homework.
“Our mission is to provide a loving and safe atmosphere for children to learn and grow in a Christian environment. We are to teach and train students, along with parental guidance, academically and spiritually to become productive citizens who demonstrate God by living a Christian life. We will build on the foundation that has been laid through hard work, prayer, dedication and sacrifice.”
